When space is at a premium, compact layouts and/or tiny gauges are about your only options. As O gauge is the "IMAX" of gauges (borrowing a sign-off from another), I have to restrict myself to the compact options.Ken Hoganson has been a long-time contributor to O Gauge Railroading magazine and to the O Gauge Forum. Some of his submissions there appear in this text, though with more elaboration. His layouts are always done with care and consideration for minimizing derailments, finessing options for equipment with larger turn radius requirements than one would ordinarily consider as feasible, and from having been compared (by Ken) with at least a half-dozen alternate variations. The text gives options for using Lionel Fastrack or Atlas O gauge track (though for many entries, it will be one or the other, with Fastrack dominating, not both). In addition, there are many options given for how to implement crossovers (single and double), ordinary (uniform radius) and easement (decreasing radius) turns, and yard sidings in both track types.I judge this as a fine contribution for those who appreciate larger gauge model railroading.
