This is an exceptional release. The label, Odradek, is interesting. They have a non-profit management system. They draw artists in through "a system of meritocratic evaluation analogous to the peer review process used in science."The Delta Piano Trio is Dutch. They formed in 2013. This is their second release. The first was on Naxos. At the time of this review, there is a third release that is currently unavailable on Amazon. It's on the Challenge label; they play Martin, Mansurian, and Dvorak. The presentation of this album is great. It's a solid-tray digipack that folds out into three panels. The left panel is a slipcase for the booklet. They did a wonderful photoshoot for the album (photographer Tommaso Tuzj). I mention this because it really does look awesome. They used high-quality glossy cardboard and paper for the outer pack and booklet. The sound engineering is also great. The mics were not too close, and it's a violin-left, cello-right kind of soundstage. The program is a well-known Shostakovich trio with two trios by the contemporary composer Lera Auerbach. The booklet explains that Auerbach "though Soviet-born, defected to the West aged 17 in 1991." She was influenced by Shostakovich, naturally.Other labels take note: This is what a top-quality classical album looks, feels, and sounds like.
